Monsoon has arrived in Kerala, it plays an important role in the production of Kharif crops
New Delhi. The southwest monsoon has knocked on Thursday two days before the scheduled time in some parts of the Northeast including the coast of Kerala and the monsoon has advanced in most parts of Northeast India. The arrival of monsoon in Kerala has happened two days before the scheduled time.
The Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has predicted normal rainfall during the monsoon season this year, which is a good sign for the agriculture and economy of the country.
Monsoon rain is very important for the production of Kharif crops, and good monsoon rains will have a positive impact on the country’s economy as well as help in controlling inflation. Last year, monsoon rains were abnormal in many parts of the country, which affected the production of Kharif crops. If there is normal monsoon rain in 36 subdivisions across the country, then farmers will benefit a lot, and demand from rural areas will improve.
The country’s farmers are highly dependent on monsoon rains for the Kharif crops of pulses as well as coarse cereals and paddy. At present, the prices of pulses are high in the domestic market, hence, with a good monsoon, farmers will sow more Kharif pulses, especially tur and urad along with moong.
According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has knocked in Kerala and advanced to most parts of Northeast India on May 30. Usually the southwest monsoon knocks in Kerala on June 1 and advances to most parts of Northeast India by June 5. The monsoon has also advanced to most parts of the Lakshadweep region, South Arabian Sea, parts of Central Arabian Sea and many parts of South Tamil Nadu.
Due to cyclone Remal, the southwest monsoon has reached the Kerala coast and most parts of the Northeast before the scheduled date. The monsoon is expected to advance in the next two to three days. During the last two days, the southeast Arabian Sea remained cloudy and Kerala received heavy rains. Heavy to very heavy rains were recorded at some places in the state. In view of these conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department announced the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Kerala.
