Ukraine s oilseed crop may fall in 2024,association says

Ukraine’s overall oilseed output is likely to fall by around 3% this year to 21 million metric tons mostly due to a smaller sunflower seed harvest, analyst APK-Inform quoted the Ukrainian vegetable oil association Ukroliyaprom as saying on Monday.

Ukraine used to be the world largest sunflower oil exporter before the Russian invasion in 2022 but since then the country reduced both production and exports of sunoil.

Ukroliyaprom said sunflower seed output may decrease 4.8% to 12 million tons in 2024.

The association also said Ukrainian rapeseed production may decline by 4.8% to 4 million tons while the harvest of soy beans could rise 4.2% to around 5 million tons.

Ukrainian farm ministry said last month it expected the area sown to sunflower could drop slightly to 5.29 million hectares in 2024 from 5.31 million in 2023.
