Preliminary data from the APK-Inform Agency shows that Ukraine exported 603 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil in February. This figure is down by only 1% m-o-m and stands as the second-highest export figure for February in recorded history. The highest export volume for February was recorded in 2019/20 MY, reaching 627 thsd tonnes.
Decreased shipments of sunflower oil in the reporting month were primarily attributed to a decline in exports to European Union countries, down by 10%. This decline occurred despite the high purchasing rates of sunflower oil at the start of the current season, resulting in significant reserves in EU countries. Approximately 364.1 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil were exported to the EU, representing a 10% decrease compared to January. Nonetheless, this volume remains one of the largest monthly shipments to the EU.
At the same time, there was an increase in the export of Ukrainian sunflower oil to Turkey (81.6 thsd tonnes; +15%) and to India (38.1 thsd tonnes against 700 tonnes in the previous month).
